Against a Single Match, the Darkness Flinches enters the world of a young boy, who, after reading in the National Enquirer that aliens are coming, gets up in the middle of the night, packs a lunch, and awaits their arrival in the backyard.
While waiting for the prediction to come true, the boy embarks on a journey, which is driven by the navvvvet and imagination of a child, yet dampened by the troubling revelations that the world is an insecure and volatile place. Caught in between childhood and adulthood, he perceives his parents difficulties and the overwhelming onslaught of world events as deeply disturbing, but lacks the ability to make sense of these new experiences. Despite the confusion, he returns from his journey filled with wonder, humor, and sadness.
