Tamar-kali: Pseudoacoustic
Valerie June: Organic Moonshine Roots Music
Curated by Rashida Bumbray
Brooklyn-based vocalist, composer, and guitarist, Tamar-kali presents her newest live soul-rock project accompanied by Vijay Iyer (piano), Somi (vocalist), Mariel Berger (accordion), and Kiebpoli Calnek (aerialist). Inspired by iconic lamenters such as Nina Simone, Edith Piaf, Jacque Brel, and Kate Bush, Tamar-kali’s dramatic torch songs, ballads, and compositions conjoin a range of musical influences — noise, punk, soul, funk, and rock — and are drawn from her background as a veteran vocalist in the NYC underground hardcore scene.
Memphis native singer/songwriter Valerie June is a self-taught guitar player, composer and troubadour of a composite music comprised of heartbreak ballads, folk songs, and the blues. Recently featured on MTV’s “$5 Cover,” June performs her new solo compositions for banjo, slide guitar, and vocals.
