An Evening with Esopus
The semiannual arts publication presents an evening of performance and screenings related to its current issue, ESOPUS 15: TELEVISION, which explores the medium of TV through contemporary artists' projects, critical and visual essays, interviews, and facsimile reproductions of production artifacts. The evening will begin with a performance piece by Emmy Award–winning soap-opera writers Jean Passanante (One Life to Live) and Addie Walsh (All My Children), who will enlist audience members to help them write an archetypal soap-opera scene from scratch. A short program of TV-related video work curated and introduced by acclaimed video artist Dara Birnbaum will follow, and the evening will end with a concert by the Brooklyn-based group One Ring Zero, whose "Busted, Plausible, or Confirmed (The MythBusters Song)" was one of the standout tracks on the issue's compliation CD.
Literature programs at The Kitchen are made possible with generous support from the Axe-Houghton Foundation and with public funds from The National Endowment for the Arts, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency.
