An Evening with Ugly Duckling Presse: Emergency INDEX

Emergency INDEX is a new yearly edition documenting performance in the words of its creators. This first volume contains nearly 250 descriptions of performances of dance, poetry, protest, theater, music, therapy, scientific research, advertising, terrorism, and more. The edition’s publisher, Ugly Duckling Presse, celebrate the launch of the publication and its contributors,  hosted by editors Matvei Yankelevich and Yelena Gluzman. The evening features performances by Marilyn Arsem, Joyce Cho & Machiqq, Lindsey Drury, Allie Avital Tsypin and Gabrielle Herbst, and Ariel Goldberg, as well as video screenings, the Homeless Museum of Art, Rebecca Cunningham's One, and Camila Caneque and her Dress.

Ugly Duckling Presse is a nonprofit art & publishing collective producing small to mid-size editions of new poetry, translations, lost works, artist's books and performance texts. Its full-length books, chapbooks, artist’s books, broadsides, magazine and newspaper all contain handmade elements, calling attention to the labor and history of bookmaking. On or off the page, UDP creates spaces in which people have an experience of art free of expectation, coercion, and utility.

Literature programs at The Kitchen are made possible with generous support from the Axe-Houghton Foundation and with public funds from The National Endowment for the Arts, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency.
