New York-based media artist
Jordan Crandall presents tracks 3 & 4 from
Drive, a seven-track, 16mm film transferred to DVD that blends
both traditional cinematic and military tracking technologies to expose
the systems of power that control our daily imagery. With projections
on multiple surfaces in both the second floor theater and The Kitchen
Art Gallery.

Remastered videotapes of dance performances
selected from The Kitchen's rich 30-year archive, featuring choreographers
who use text and talking on stage.
David Michalek: Becky

Artist David
Michalek explores the inner world of Los Angeles "outsider" artist,
Saint Becky. This portrait installation features a partial recreation
of her text-covered-apartment, video stills and an audio track of her
whispering her texts. In conjunction with The People's Poetry Gathering
festival.

Art II

A cacophonous son et
lumière spectacle, featuring slide projectors rhythmically whirling
and trapezoids of light bouncing off conventional gallery Plexiglas. Part
of an ongoing series first presented at the Cassia de America in Madrid,
Spain.
Fakeshop: Capsule Hotel

Hour $8 (see performance listings)
Inspired by a businessman's
hotel in Tokyo, the net-art group Fakeshop installs a prototype Capsule
Hotel module in their signature aesthetic of low-tech industrial and
high-tech digital materials. Invoking an imaginary "chat space," Capsule
Hotel addresses the simultaneous Internet experience of isolation
and interconnectivity.
